Three Things DICE need to fix in Bad Company 2

-=Punkbuster=- | Sunday, March 21, 2010 | 00:49

It’s Saturday night and I’m in the right mood to complain about politics, taxes, religion, and of course Bad Company 2. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not the type of player that whines about Noob Tube, Nade Spam, and all the other issues a server admin can solve with a simple kick ban, but there are some things I really care about. Let me start with the most annoying thing that I’m experiencing as player and not as an admin: the mouse wheel.

Up and down

I don’t know what is going on but the wheel is not working as it should be. Most of the players switch their weapons with keys but besides the fact that I’m one of the n00bs that play with arrow keys I’m used to switch my weapons via mouse wheel. Or better: I was used before I started to play BFBC2 because ingame I experience a funny Bug. Instead of having a continuous rotation players have to scroll up and down to select a weapon and while scrolling down works fine, scrolling up doesn’t. If you have been in the urgent need to switch from the rocket launcher back to your main gun ending up knifed with the repair tool in your hand you know what I mean.

Chat victim

The mouse thing is very annoying but not the only situation I’m normally the next part of some ones Dog Tag collection. The next thing is the Ingame chat. The vast majority of player might agree with the assumption that it isn’t the best idea to write novels while you are standing somewhere at the Battlefield. You probably get knifed, sniped, or teamkilled by the driver of a tank (hey, it’s your fault to stand in the way, isn’t it?) while you explain the server rules to some ignorant players. The majority might also agree that it might be a good idea to write the message right after the last frag from the spawn screen, but guess what: it is not possible. You have to spawn to use the chat. Why?

Teams?

Talking about the ingame chat brings me to my last point for today: the team or auto balance which in fact does not work. Even if the ratio is 15:5 nothing happens. Not a single player is forced to the other team and it is not possible to initiate any action via the admin tool. What I’ve experienced so far is that the “Yell” function is a total waste of time. Nobody wants to join the loosing team especially if the ratio is 15:5 and the poor five people are practically killed right after they spawn. In my opinion this is one of the most important things that have to be fixed because not existing team balance can ruin a game more than not attacking attackers, noob tubing or any other fact. It’s annoying for the players as well as the server admins.

Hope springs eternal

So come on, DICE, please fix these issues and make this great game even more greater than it actually is. I love the new game and have never played so many hours besides my job, girlfriend, and family since Battlefield 2 has been released. Bad Company 2 is a big hit. It’s loud, it’s fun, and it’s addictive but there are some teething troubles that have to be cured to make it perfect. And even if there are hundreds and thousands of threads full of people complaining over these and that I have a spark of hope that some of the devs might read this entry. And even if they don’t there might be players out there that feel the same and stumble over it.

Cheers, PunK!
